People in Jakarta experienced electricity blackout.
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan called out all residents who still affected by blackout to check food that stored in the refrigerator, since the electricity turned down in Greater Jakarta and West Java on last Sunday (August 4) afternoon.
"Good morning friends, related to the blackout, millions of refrigeratetors do not work, so first check the food or drinks inside and make sure no one consumes stale food or drinks," said Anies through his official Twitter account on Monday (August 5).
A major blackout has affected thousands of homes and public facilities in Greater Jakarta and West Java. The electricity went off at around 11.48 pm and it lasts for almost eight hours.
In Jakarta, many people experienced disrupting traffic, communications, and businesses. Traffic lights all over the city ceased to operate, which caused severe traffic congestion.
Meanwhile, electricity-powered commuter line and MRT trains were brought to a halt, forcing passengers to disembark and walk to the nearest station. Road intersections also fell into disorganization in many places. In addition, with power off in homes across the city, people sought temporary refuge in the malls or shopping centres.
According to State Electricity Company (PLN) statement, a massive power outage happened due to electricity transmission disruptions. Turbine Gas 1 to 6 in Suralaya experienced a trip, while Turbine Gas 7 is currently in the off position.
In addition, Cilegon Gas Turbine Power Plant also experienced a disruption or trip. This disruption has caused electricity in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi turned down. In West Java, transmission disruptions affected several areas, namely Bandung, Cianjur, Cimahi, Cirebon, Garut, Karawang, Purwakarta, Majalaya, Sumedang, Tasikmalaya, Gunung Putri, and Sukabumi.
